About Us
We’re James and Kylie, the husband-and-wife team behind The Odd Frog. What began as a shared love of nature, thoughtful design and time spent outdoors has grown into a place where we can welcome others to experience the same sense of calm and wonder we feel here every day. The Odd Frog isn’t just accommodation – it’s a way of living a little more gently.

Our Place
The Odd Frog is located in Bright, at the foothills of the Victorian High Country, it offers the rate combination of being close to town while feeling immersed in nature. Just a short walk from the centre of Bright, the surrounding bushland and sense of space create calm, grounded setting that drew us to this land and continues to shape everything that we do here.
Wildlife
One of the quiet joys of staying at The Odd Frog is sharing the land with the wildlife that live here. Kangaroos move through the bush at dawn and dusk, wombats wander past after dark, and native birdlife fills the morning with sound. These animals aren’t here for display – this is their home, and we’re simply fortunate enough to live alongside them. We are proud members of Land for Wildlife, supporting the protection and long-tern health of native habitat through voluntary conservation on private land.

Custodianship
Our role is to care for the land, protect it and leave it healthier for the wildlife and the people who come after us. The land sets the pace here. The Odd Frog sits gently within the landscape, allowing bush, seasons and wildlife to remain the focus rather than the buildings themselves. Native vegetation is protected and encouraged, and wildlife corridors are left undisturbed. Kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, possums and birdlife aren’t visitors here – they’re residents.
Thoughtful Design
The Odd Frog has been designed with intention and restraint, allowing the natural environment to remain the hero. Each space is positioned for privacy and connection to the landscape, blending comfort with simplicity rather than excess. Materials and building choices were selected with care, favouring natural, recyclable elements and a minimal footprint on the land. The Odd Frog approach to design is quiet and considered – creating places that feel grounded, unobtrusive and at ease within the bush.

Sustainability
Sustainability at The Odd Frog is woven into everyday decisions rather than treated as a feature. Solar power, water harvesting, energy efficient appliances and low-watt lighting help reduce our footprint, while building orientation maximises winter sun and natural cooling in summer. Water is used thoughtfully through low-flow fittings and native, water-wise landscaping, alongside clear recycling and food-organics systems in each space and continue to make practical choices that support the land and minimise impact.
Community & Local Connections
The Odd Frog is part of a small and connected High Country community, and we value the relationships that come with living and hosting here. Wherever possible, we support local makers, growers and businesses, and encourage guests to explore the region beyond their stay. Being locally based allows us to host with care, share genuine recommendations and stay connected to the place we call home.

Presence & Stillness
There is a noticeable shift when you arrive in the High Country. The air is clear, the pace slows, and the noise of everyday life falls away. Surrounded by the High Country landscape, many guests find themselves breathing a little deeper, sleeping a little better, and settling into the quiet rhythm of the bush.
Giving Back
Giving back is part of our responsibility as custodians of this place. Through supporting local connections and donating retreat stays to organisations such as the OTIS Foundation, we aim to share the restorative qualities of the land and contribute in a practical, considered way.
